Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Mothercraft Nurse?

A Registered Mothercraft Nurse has intensive post natal training and qualifications from Tresillian or Karitane ( NSW) in the care of both parent/s and child, from newborns through to preschoolers.

As experienced child and maternal health professionals, our aim is to guide and advise parents with customised support and tailored solutions around infant or toddler sleep, feeding (breast, bottle and diet), routines and toddler behavioural management.

Why choose a Mothercraft nurse instead of a sleep consultant?

When one of our qualified Nurses comes to your home, you can trust the welfare of your baby or toddler into our care.

Why? Because we are Tresillian or Karitane trained nurses with have a clinical background in postnatal nursing and like all other health professionals we must be registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) through the national Nurses and Midwifery Board.

This means that we have the medical training and knowledge to be able to assess and identify the causes behind babies and toddlers who are not thriving, developing or sleeping within normal developmental expectations. Potentially it may be lactation problems, breastfeeding techniques, formula feeding, reflux or other digestive issues, food allergies or intolerances.

We may also decide the best solution for all concerned is to refer you to other Health Professionals  before you move forward with us.

We are mindful of the latest evidence based  research ( required by our Registration) combined with our extensive postnatal experience.

Do your nurses use Cry It Out methods for sleep support?

We do not use any cry based methods to drive change. We use responsive sleep and settling techniques that are supportive and reassuring for both parent and child and developmentally age appropriate. We are respectful of  individual parenting styles and goals so that you are comfortable with the proposed approach and customised Care Plan.

Because positive changes take time, patience and support.

Are your Nurses suitably insured whilst in my home?

Yes all our nurses are employed by Mothercraft for Babies and remunerated under the current Nurses Award. This means they are insured with Professional Indemnity and Public Liability and Workers compensation.

What if my baby sleeps or behaves perfectly during the home consultation?

With the depth of our experience, we expect that your baby or toddler will demonstrate any challenges you have both been facing during our shortest visit which is three hours. Even when you would swear that they know when we are arriving!

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Our cancellation policy is included in our Terms of Service on our website and also included with your invoice email when you have booked with us. When appropriate there can be a discretionary refund (minus the cancellation fee) outside the usual Terms and under certain circumstances beyond your control. This is decided by Beth Barclay our Founder and Director.

Your website says that Mothercraft for Babies is “trusted by Paediatricians”, what does that mean?

This means that many Early Childhood Health Professionals and Paediatric specialists refer to us for assessment and ongoing support for their patients. Just as we can provide priority referrals to them when we deem this to be the best solution for you.
